Finals Days First Semester

There will be a roots test on finals day. It will include the 6 suffixes, 27 prefixes, and first 31 roots. You need to know what the suffix/prefix/root means and be able to provide one sample word, spelled correctly.

Also, there will be a party and video on finals day.

Periods 1,4,6: Write a paragraph. Choose one of these topics:

What are the three most important events in The Outsiders and why?
Why was the book better than the movie (or the movie better than the book)
Three things I would change about the movie and why.

Please bring your Outsiders book for collection next class.

Periods 2,3:Write a 4 (or more) paragraph essay. Here is the topic:
Choose one or more of the themes of The Outsiders. Write an essay about how that theme (or those themes) are shown in the book.

An essay has an introductory paragraph where you state your opinion. The intro has 2-5 sentences. The end is a concluding paragraph of about the same length. The two or more body paragraphs should be similar to the paragraphs we have written in class this year.

Please bring your Outsiders books for collection and a silent reading book.

******Study for the word of the day quiz.(periods 2 and 3)

Homework Assigned Tues. Nov. 17 and Wed. Nov. 18

Holt Handbook pages 7 and 8. Do exercises 2 and 3 1-10 each. Just write the simple subject in both exercises.

Bring in Outsiders Projects if you haven't already. They are late!

Please finish reading The Outsiders if you haven't already.

Your Outsiders projects are due Tuesday (A) and Wednesday(B). Remember that you will lost 10 percent of your score every day that the project is late.

Study!!!!!!

There will be a quiz on Vocabulary Lists 5 and 6 next class.

There will also be the Parts of Speech test. It is worth 50 points plus 6 extra credit points. The parts of speech are covered in the Holt Handbook Chapters 2 and 3.

You need to be able to recognize the part of speech of particular words. You need to know what a linking verb is.

Periods 2 and 3 need to know the differences among the types of pronouns.
Period 1,4 and 6 should look at those, too, because you need to be able to recognize a pronoun.

Remember that your Outsider projects are due next Tuesday and Wednesday....

Soon it will be the holidays and you can take a break from your hard work!!!
