In-class essay: Write a 3-5 paragraph essay. Topics (choose one)
1. Discuss the theme of "fighting doesn't do any good" in The Outsiders. Explain how this theme is shown.
2. Discuss "What is a hero" as it applies to The Outsiders.

Please give your essay a title, put on the heading, and make sure you have a thesis statement. Try to include at least one quote from the book, but make sure it fits what you are talking about.

Homework: Look at your two essays on the Outsiders (one if you missed doing the other) and decide which you want graded. Edit that one (yourself, or have someone at home edit it) and prepare a final copy (must be typed for periods 4 and 6; must be written in blue or black ink or typed for period 5). Due Monday.

Homework: Holt Handbook chapter 1, page 2. Review A and review B 1-25. In Review A, simple put S for sentences and F for fragments. No need to rewrite anything. In review B, write the complete subject (noun or pronoun, plus all associated adjectives and phrases) and then underline the simple subject (just the noun or pronoun).
